Companies with an online store traditionally face a dilemma: both the retail and the accounting applications need to access the data describing products, customers and orders. Rarely are these two business processes colocated on a network map. Online retail occurs on a webserver in the cloud, while accounting occurs either on a local machine or on a server in a company's local network. Switchback took on the task of connecting the accounting (Quickbooks) and retail (D7 Commerce) pieces of online commerce.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with Acquia’s impressive Drupal Gardens service. As a designer, I’ve enjoyed the amount of theming control available through the web interface. While I do have a few wishes, it’s really hard to complain; this thing provides nearly everything you need for complete custom theming, especially if you’re willing to get a little creative.

On the 7th, I celebrated the release of Drupal 7 in Jackson, MI, in the company of the Commerce Guys and a few other developers, designers, and drupalgangers. Rubbing elbows with fellow Drupal-lovers is always a good time, especially when you're celebrating something as exciting as the release of Drupal 7.
